As a sub contractor for the French co. Compenon Bernard S.G.E the main contractor of the Greater Cairo metro project - Cairo's subway, Refaat for Contracting was able to fix and place over 70,000 tons of steel rebar for the reinforced concrete works of the project; whose budget exceeded US $3 billion in the years 1990-95.
Working on 9 stations and plant locations all at the same time, Refaat for Contracting succeeded to meet with schedule in both Execution rate and Quality terms.
The enormous Greater Cairo Metro has proven to be highly necessity for easing Cairo's traffic that is over 2 million passengers are using the subway on daily basis.
Extensions and additional phases were studied and currently into tendering process.
As part of the Egyptian government plan to keep old Cairo district a pollution free zone - which was built 1500 ago - major conversions were attributed to the area's map and car traffic will only be allowed to pass through a 1.75 km twin tunnel each for a single direction.

Again Refaat for Contracting was considered the most important player in the project's work team when fixing rebar rates reached 3,000 tons per day in the one of the tightest construction schedule and most challenging work environment.
